Everyone here is owed respect. That is the whole rule.
A chatroom is only as good as the people who are let in, so Hashti spends its effort on the door: real people, one account each, a filter that stops the worst before it is sent, and a person who reads every report within a day.

The filter reads what was actually typed.
Slurs and threats are refused before they leave your phone, and a message that only swears goes through with the word covered. It reads past spacing, leetspeak and look-alike characters — f u c k, sh1t and the rest — in English, Spanish and Persian.
- A respect check as you type, with a way to say it kindly instead.
- Strikes that add up by themselves: two warnings, an hour muted, a day, a week, and then the account is closed. Every strike is visible to you in Settings, with when it stops counting.
- Clean-only rooms for hosts who want no swearing at all.
Removed immediately, permanently: anything sexual involving a minor, threats of violence, sharing someone's private information, encouraging self-harm. Removed, with a suspension: harassment, hate, unwanted sexual content or advances, impersonation, scams. The community rules say all of it in plain words.
Report anything. Block anyone.
A report button on every message, room, profile, post and private message, with nine reasons. A report keeps a copy of what was said, so editing or deleting it afterwards changes nothing for the person reviewing it.
- Blocking is instant and mutual, and it removes the friendship and follows too. Somebody you blocked cannot message or call you, see your posts, or find you.
- Message requests are the default for strangers: no receipts, no presence, no typing, no calls, and a five-message cap until you accept.
- Silence unknown callers, hide your last seen, decide who can add you to groups, lock the app or just the chats you want out of sight.
Said plainly.
Secret chats between friends are end-to-end encrypted: opt-in, one to one, text only, and nobody outside them — Hashti included — can read them. Ordinary chats, groups, rooms, status and channels are encrypted in transit and at rest, and the server can read them, because the filter, strikes and reports need to.
- The database is encrypted on disk, private pictures and files open only through links that expire, and the phone number on an account is stored as a fingerprint plus its last two digits.
- Your address book never leaves your phone. Contact matching hashes each contact on the device and sends only the hashes, and only if you turn it on.
- No ads, no tracking, no advertising SDK. Nothing is shared with third parties other than the services the operator configures, and the privacy notice lists them.
If you are removed and it was wrong, appeal it — without signing in, because a closed account cannot. A person reads every one, and a decision comes back by email. Do not make another account while you wait; that is its own reason to refuse.
