Talking to Strangers (2026) cast: who stars in the film

The Talking to Strangers (2026) cast is led by RJ Mitte and Lin Yin, with Danielle Baez, Skipper Elekwachi and Ashley Hogan. Who plays whom, and more.

The cast of Talking to Strangers (2026) is led by RJ Mitte and Lin Yin. The supporting cast listed on the film's pages includes Danielle Baez, Skipper Elekwachi and Ashley Hogan. Johnny Severin wrote and directed it. Mitte plays Joshua, a guarded man who keeps his life tightly controlled. The film is a small independent drama that came out on streaming on July 17, 2026.

That is the short answer. Below is what I could confirm, what I could not, and a few other films with nearly the same name that may be the one you were really looking for.

The cast, as listed

These names come from the film's listings on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb and Prime Video, which I checked while writing:

  • RJ Mitte plays Joshua, the lead.
  • Lin Yin plays Marty, the other lead.
  • Danielle Baez is in the supporting cast.
  • Skipper Elekwachi is in the supporting cast.
  • Ashley Hogan is in the supporting cast.

I am being careful about the supporting names. Small independent films often have cast pages that are incomplete or change over time. The listings I saw gave me the names but not always the character each person plays, and I do not want to guess. If you need the full credit list, the end credits of the film or the IMDb full cast page will be more complete than any blog post.

Who is RJ Mitte

Most people know RJ Mitte as Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad. He has cerebral palsy, which he has talked about publicly for years. In this film he plays a character who also has cerebral palsy.

That is worth saying because it is still not the norm. Disabled characters are often played by actors who are not disabled. Here the lead actor knows the life from the inside. That is my opinion, not a critic's line, but it is the main reason I would watch the film.

Who is Lin Yin

Lin Yin plays Marty, the character who pulls Joshua out of his routine. The film describes Marty as impulsive and warm, with problems of her own. The whole story rests on the two of them talking to each other, so the casting of the second lead matters as much as the first.

I will not pretend to know her full career. I would rather tell you that than invent a list of credits. Look up her page on IMDb if you want her other work.

What the film is about

Joshua has built a careful routine that protects him from disappointment. Nothing surprises him because he does not let anything in. Marty is the opposite. They meet by chance, an awkward lunch turns into more conversations, and the film follows what happens when two very different people keep talking.

It runs 1 hour 35 minutes. The distributor is Indie Rights and the production company is Dogpark Productions. In the US it was on the Prime Video store to rent or buy when I checked. Prices and availability change by country, so check your own store first.

I wrote a longer piece on the story itself in my post about the Talking to Strangers film. This one is just about who is in it.

Films with almost the same name

If the cast above does not match what you were after, you probably wanted one of these.

Talking to a Stranger (2026)

Note the "a." This is a Mexican horror film directed by Adrián García Bogliano. It played at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2026. It is a completely different film with a different cast.

Talking to Strangers (1988)

An experimental American film directed by Rob Tregenza, built from nine encounters with strangers in a city, each one a single long take. It is a different cast again, and a very different evening.

Malcolm Gladwell's book

Talking to Strangers is also the title of a Malcolm Gladwell book about how we misjudge people we do not know. It has no cast, but it is the other big reason people search the phrase.

Why a chat app builder cares

I am Connery. I built Hashti, a free chat app for people 18 and over, and I live in Los Angeles. I am Armenian-Iranian, so I grew up between languages and between groups of people who did not always have an easy way to talk to each other. A film about two people who should not connect, and do, is close to what I think about every day.

It is also why I think the real subject of the film is not romance. It is the first conversation. Most of us are good at talking to people we already know. The hard part is the first few minutes with someone new.

Talking to strangers online

If the film made you want to talk to someone new, here is my honest take on doing it online.

Most of the risk is not the conversation. It is who you are talking to. Fake accounts, people who return after a ban, and people who are not who they say they are. That is the problem I tried to solve with Hashti, and I will be straight about how.

Hashti checks identity once, against a government document. The photo of the document is deleted. A fingerprint of it stays, so the same document cannot open a second account. Unverified accounts cannot host rooms, speak in voice rooms or message strangers. Twelve verified reports close an account permanently. You can read how that works on the safety page.

Where Hashti fits and where it does not

Hashti has public rooms with names and topics, plus private chats, calls and a walkie-talkie. It is free, it is 18+, and it is out now on the App Store. Android is in its closed test, so if you are on Android, you will have to wait.

Live translation covers 29 languages. It is part of Hashti Plus, which is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Everything else is free.

The app's own interface is English today. A Farsi one is being built. If you need the menus in another language right now, Hashti is not ready for you yet.

It is also not a replacement for Signal or iMessage with friends and family. Those are better for people you already know. Hashti is for the first conversation with someone you do not.

The short version

The Talking to Strangers (2026) cast is RJ Mitte and Lin Yin in the lead roles, with Danielle Baez, Skipper Elekwachi and Ashley Hogan in support, under writer-director Johnny Severin. If you meant a different film, check the list above. If you wanted to actually talk to someone new tonight, the chats page explains how Hashti handles that.

Whichever you pick, start the conversation. The film makes a decent case that it is worth it.

Get Hashti on the App Store

Hashti is free, and it is 18+. Hashti Plus — live translation, writing help and catch-ups — is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and nothing else costs anything. How rooms work is on the rooms page, and how reports and the ID check work is on the safety page.
